Today (I wrote this text on the 1st of September, 2024), I will provide some thoughts on obesity.
The older I am, the more I feel and see (I wrote this text from a practitioner’s perspective, not a theorist’s) that the fight against obesity is a fight against the appetite that sits in the head, not against calories. Forget about counting calories to obtain a calorie deficit. It is a totally useless activity to analyze how many calories you consumed, my Dear Friend. As far as I remember from Dr. Jason Fung’s book about intermittent fasting, the author stated that counting calories was the only (inefficient) solution the world of medicine provided to fight the obesity pandemic.
So, how can one overcome obesity?
After all, I also weighed much too many kilograms (my record was in 2011 when I weighed 99 kg [218 lbs] compared to my current weight of 80 kg [176 lbs]), and I did not feel well remembering those times. But I want to share with you that I finally won the battle with my obesity in Christmas 2020. It was a time when I ate meals regularly, from dusk till dawn, for a long time. Since Christmas, I have started doing intermittent fasting. It helped to stabilize my weight because this stabilization lasted three and a half years, and it is still ongoing. Forget about calorie counting, my Dear Friend.
Focus on the time between your meals.
For me, the fact that I have not eaten or drunk (since July 2024) anything before 7 p.m. works totally fine. Also, I avoid eating processed food and carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, pizza, hamburgers, etc.). I focus on eating eggs, meat, vegetables, and nuts. Regarding the drinks, I drink only water and coffee. Undoubtedly, there is no better way to overcome obesity than doing intermittent (dry) fasting. It’s a journey that brings hope and a healthier future.
