Last time, while watching Ireneusz Dobrowolski’s movie “Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski,” I realized that there is one of the worst nightmares which can happen in the artist’s life.
So what’s this catastrophe? I will explain to you Stanislaw Szukalski’s example. Szukalski was a Polish-born sculptor and painter. Thanks to Di Caprio’s efforts, Netflix released a movie about the life of a Polish sculptor. One of the incidents from the experiences of controversial Polish artists was that all his artworks were destroyed during the beginning of World War the Second. Indeed, it is one of the worst nightmares in an artist’s life. How did it happen that all his artworks were destroyed?
German Nazis started bombarding Warsaw, the capital of Poland, where Szukalski was living with his wife.
Unfortunately, in Polish history, there were a lot of quite similar situations. Szukalski was hurt during the siege. Also, his art studio was mostly destroyed. Most of all, his paintings and sculptures were gone forever. I believe this is one of the worst things that could happen in all artists’ lives. The fact is that I keep all my photographs on an external, portable hard drive. In general, if some disaster would appear in my life, e.g., (the disk would be damaged or stolen (e.g., in a transport). I hope that such a thing will never occur in my life, but, to be honest, I am afraid of it.
I hope that no one will ever, once again in a lifetime of this city, bomb Warsaw.
Also, I pray that will never be any fire in my house. I believe my pictures are safe enough, but there is always a possibility that something terrible will happen to them. In Stanislaw Szukalski’s life occurred, a horrible nightmare. I hope you and I, my Dear Friend, will never have similar trauma.
