In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I would have a break in rucking due to lower back aches.
Today, on the 26th of April, 2025, I could say that my break in rucking lasted one week. I remember predicting my break from walking with a heavy rucksack would take one week. How did I know it? It was because the pain in my back appeared not because of walking with heavy weights, but due to more prolonged than expected sitting in my office job. I knew this kind of pain because I had it earlier (to be more precise, it has been a recurring pain since 2015), and I knew it would calm down after approximately one week. How did I feel after taking over 12k steps with an additional weight on my back and shoulders of 32 kg (71 lbs)? I felt great.
Undoubtedly, my muscles rested during the one-week period of rest.
Of course, during this one week, I was walking and doing street photography (I do not have to mention I did also today). Still, there is a big difference between walking without a heavy backpack and with one. I hope I will be doing rucking until the end of my life, or my health will let me do it. I have no doubt that this tremendous activity/exercise improves my general health and well-being. Undoubtedly, the mass of muscles increased. I see it and feel it.
After all, I’ve been rucking since the middle of August 2024, and I started by walking with ten kilograms of barbell plates in my rucksack. During almost 9 months of regularly doing rucking, I managed to triple the weight of my burden. I do not expect such a significant increase in the future. Still, I hope to constantly and slightly increase the weight of my rucksack until the end of my life.
