After writing the title of this post, I started to think whether one week of drinking beer per year is too much.
I believe that drinking alcohol is quite popular in both my native Poland and Latvia (I wrote this text on the 21st of June, 2025, while in the Latvian town of Liepaja). Human organisms are not used to eating and drinking all the time. On the contrary. I believe the only efficient way to stay healthy is fasting, both intermittent and dry. The state where one eats all the time from dusk to dawn is not normal. Also, I have no doubt that drinking alcohol regularly is something normal. It is not. I accept drinking only while on vacation, like with our current stay in one of the Baltic states. I know when I return home, I won’t drink a drop of alcohol anymore. That’s how it will work for me until the end of my life. I can say I drink alcohol occasionally.
As far as I know, most people living in Poland and Latvia could say they drink alcohol regularly, e.g., a minimum of once a week.
When did I give up drinking alcohol? It happened between 2017 and 2018. I remember I had a shoulder injury. I had to take medicines, and there was a clear statement that I could not drink alcohol while taking the drugs for a month. It was a time of ‘Eureka’ for me. When I stopped drinking alcohol, I started to write more efficiently. My thoughts became clearer. I began to sleep and feel better. That’s why I gave up alcohol and did not drink a drop of booze for a few years. Today, as you see, my Dear Friend, I make some exceptions while on vacation. How happy I am that the one week of drinking beer appears once a year. The personal benefits of moderation are genuinely inspiring and keep me motivated to maintain this lifestyle.
