Today (I wrote this text on the 27th of August, 2025), I realized I have been rucking for over one year.
To be more precise, I started doing it on the 18th of August, 2024. I began by adding barbell plates weighing 10 kg (22 lbs) to my rucksack. Today, I frequently walk with a total weight of 37.5 kg (83 lbs) on my back and shoulders. As you can see, my Dear Friend, during the past year, I managed to increase my weight by 27.5 kg. I think it is a tremendous result, even though I did not have any plans or expectations before I started rucking. Do I have any special expectations for rucking today? No. On the contrary. I am convinced that during the upcoming year, the increase in weight I will be carrying won’t be as impressive as it was during the first year.
For today, taking 10k steps with a 37.5 kg burden on my back and shoulder is still a hectic activity for me.
That’s why I do not plan to increase the weight during the upcoming months. I doubt I will do it in 2025. I think I’ve already written a text stating that each increase in weight in the future will occur over a more extended period than at the beginning of my rucking journey. What rucking gave? Undoubtedly, I became literally a more robust human, both physically and mentally. It is not only the case that my biceps, for example, grew significantly. I feel I have become a much more confident human. I am not afraid of anything, literally. Do I recommend rucking? Of course, I do. Still, if you are physically weak, my Dear Friend, please start with light weights (even carrying two full bottles of water at the beginning should be okay). That will be enough writing about rucking for over one year.
