Paying bills is my duty, not the meaning of life.
I work in a broadly defined finance field to be able to pay bills and earn money for my passion, which is doing street photography and writing. This passion is what truly gives meaning to my life. It’s not about the money but the personal fulfillment I get from pursuing what I love. Earning money and paying bills, without a shadow of a doubt, are not my life’s ultimate aims. It is not the case that I know if life has its meaning and what the ultimate objective of my life is. I do not know it, and I will never know it. Still, the older I am, the more I feel that such an empty activity, like earning money, will never give meaning to my life.
Of course, if someone asked me if I would have more money than less, I would reply that I would like to have more.
Still, I cannot imagine subjugating my life to earning money. I do not evaluate myself for how much money I earn or my professional position. Also, I do not judge other people through the prism of their professional status and success. I wish all other people as many successes as possible, not only in their professional careers but their whole lives. The truth is that while doing street photography and writing texts, I forget about money. I do not think about them. I do not want them to sell pictures (of course, I sold some of them, but I do not want to behave as a businessman focusing only on selling). To me, success is not about wealth or recognition but about personal fulfillment and the positive impact we can have on others.
It’s important to remember that success is subjective and not defined by societal norms.
Does everything I wrote in this text make sense? I hope it does. I believe since my brother Marcinek’s death, I unconsciously started to feel that life is not about making a career so that most of society will applaud you because you are so rich, efficient in your work, and successful. The truth is that I believe life has much more meaning than we know. Still, we will never know this sense because (it is one of the options) life does not have to have understanding. Nevertheless, I am convinced that earning money and paying bills is not the ultimate of my life.
