People are people.

August 7, 2019 by Adam Mazek

The chorus of the famous Depeche Mode song “People are people” often echoes in my mind.

Last time, one thing attracted my attention while watching the video clip of the title song. I noticed one similar aspect between this video clip and the other. Depeche Mode’s music video and The Sugarcube’s “Birthday” video clip possess a standard feature. The eyes of Martin Gore from Depeche Mode and Bjork (singer of The Sugarcubes) have something unusual.

In some parts of the video clips mentioned above, artists’ eyes are looking towards the infinite distance.

We can spot that this peculiar, unlimited distance is more than the ordinary reality surrounding them. Both artists are focused on singing. They feel their music. Moreover, they are in the creative process. Artistry speaks through their voices and eyes.

The same spontaneity of youth we can find in Madonna’s very first song (“Lucky Star”) or the video clip” Holiday.”

Both songs are from the exact first album, named “Madonna.” I have already written about it in one of my previous posts. I want to be as often as possible in this good creation mood. It is the purpose of my life. When I take pictures, that’s how I feel. I feel like all artists mentioned above are in a constant process of creating new things. It is the time when the artist is born. I feel re-born as an artist practically all the time while I take pictures on the streets of Warsaw or write new texts for this website.

I do not see any reason why I should stop doing it. On the contrary, I genuinely believe I will do all these things until the end of my life. Of course, some circumstances (e.g., fatal illness) can prevent me from doing it. But, as for today, I hope I will be able to create art as long as all geniuses mentioned in the first part of this post. Eventually, people are people, and we all should focus on the creation and not on the devastation.
