For today, I work as an accountant. Nevertheless, while taking photographs on the streets, if someone outside of work would ask me who I am, I would answer that I’m a photographer.
Why? Because today everyone is using the Internet, especially Google web search. If someone “googles” me, the first thing that one will see is this site, it was one of the aims of my website. I want my page to become my personal, virtual business card connected with my passion. I want to be known as a photographer. But, on the other hand, sometimes I think of what exactly it means to be a photographer.
I believe that today, paradoxically, we all are photographers.
The statistics are clear. According to Business Insider, in the second quarter of 2017, two-third of the world’s population possessed mobile devices. Thus, I believe that practically we all are photographers. Of course, not everyone owns truly professional equipment like digital, full-frame cameras. But, I think that we can create compelling pictures using low-budget smartphones.
So how can we stand out from other photographers?
I do not think that there is one, a proper prescription for it. Nevertheless, I chose two ways:
1) being a prolific artist;
2) creating and managing my site.
Indeed, you can say, my Dear Guest, that many other photographers chose a similar way. I agree. But, I am convinced that I am one of the most prolific photographers in the world. I just want you to become aware, my Dear Guest, that I managed to make twenty-five thousand (!!!) images in 2018. Of course, 90% of them were made on the streets of Warsaw. I am continually publishing them here on this website. And do you know what? I still feel that it is only the beginning of my artistic journey. Even if I don’t get worldwide recognition, I aim to leave to posterity as many good photographs as possible. It is what makes us a photographer and artist as well. Without constant creating, you will never reach the sky.
