For me, photographing does not mean documenting in the same way as writing does not mean describing.
I do not do street photography to document reality. Moreover, I do not write all the texts you can find on my blog to describe everything I see, hear, or understand. I hope all my creative doings will evoke emotions and feelings among my audience and readers. This is the core of my artistic activity. I am not a historian. I do not care whether I describe reality as it is. I want to present it via my inner visual language. Still, the truth is that I sometimes do documentary photography. Sometimes I take pictures of the architecture. Even when doing it, I always try to maintain my creative style.
Regarding writing, I do not write a journal describing what I did and what happened during the day.
I prepare “Diaries,” but I write my past posts, not my activities during the day. Sometimes I describe my daily routines, but such texts are in the minority. I liked reading Norman Davies’ books about history, but I used to read such books more than ten years ago (I wrote this text on the 7th of September, 2022). What I know is that writing about history and taking facts from documents would not be for me. I prefer writing straight out of my mind. It means I love sharing my thoughts, insights, and ideas with my contemporaries and future generations.
Undoubtedly, I will provide the latter with some documenting facts and issues. Still, I prefer to share my feelings and emotions regarding many topics. By writing all these things, I do not want to criticize photographers who do documentary photography. Let everyone do what we want to do, whether it will be describing reality or writing a science-fiction novel.
