Personally, I find immense joy in the belief that countless new places are waiting to be discovered on our beautiful planet.
This joy, this thrill of the unknown, fuels my passion for street photography and my exploration of Warsaw.
How is that impossible? After all, the surface of the Earth is not infinitely large. You can sightsee all of them if you have enough money and time – you could undoubtedly answer me, my Dear Friend.
Yes, but considering the length of our lives and the fact that basically the seemingly same place nevertheless varies from day to day, I stand by my opinion – I would reply.
Today (I wrote this text on the 31st of August, 2024), I was doing street photography in Wlochy district, near my Mokotów, for the umpteenth time.
During rucking (I had an additional 10 kg [22 lbs] of weight in my rucksack) and taking pictures of my mundane surroundings, the dialogue written above appeared in my head. I have been doing street photography since October 2015. It’s been almost nine years of taking pictures on the same streets. I still cannot imagine how it is possible that I am not bored of photographing mainly the same streets. The truth is that I cannot explain it. I believe one of the reasons is that the more I take photos, the more I see that each day is literally different from another. I think most of the people do not notice this sublime difference.
Well, I guess I notice differences between each day because I am often focused visually on my surroundings.
Most people are frequently less focused than I am because they are in a rush, hurrying, talking, or even scrolling smartphones. Perhaps they are dreaming and planning to discover new places, forgetting they have many things to see right here, right now, in front of their eyes. Street photography has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to see the world in a way that most people overlook.
