Prisoners of war.

July 4, 2025 by Adam Mazek

Why are prisoners of war starved and not stuffed with processed food?

This text will be highly controversial. I hope all the Ukrainian prisoners of war who are today (I wrote this text on the 22nd of August, 2024) in Russian captivity will return to their homes soon. Still, remembering pictures of released Ukrainian prisoners of war who were very skinny, I asked myself why they were starved. I asked myself this question because, for me, the worst thing would be to eat processed food from dusk till dawn. Did I get mad? Perhaps I did. Still, I think that if the Rashists wanted to kill the Ukrainian prisoners of war, they would not do it by trying to starve them. We all know, from historical books or current news feeds, that there are more efficient ways to kill people.

I think that giving prisoners small food amounts is a kind of psychological way of torturing them.

I think that for me, much worse would be to eat shitty processed food each hour, from dusk till dawn. The truth is that while being slim (my record was 72 kg in 2021 [159 lbs]), I had a much more robust and resilient body, mind, and soul than when I was overweight (my record was 99 kg in 2011 [218 lbs]). I believe if someone wants to break down psychologically prisoners of war, they should feed them forcibly one of the worst kinds of food (e.g., bread).

I know all these things are highly controversial. Most people would disagree with me, and perhaps they would be right. I am not a demigod who knows everything about the surrounding world. Still, as far as I am concerned, doing intermittent fasting (I have done it since Christmas 2020) and intermittent dry fasting (I have done it since the beginning of July 2024), I think that giving people small food portions is paradoxically strengthening their bodies, minds, and souls.
