While preparing „Diaries 09.2018 p. II,” and while reading my post named „External Factors,” I realized that I must update one piece of information regarding the protective smog mask.
In the post mentioned above, I complained about a cloud of smog that, unfortunately, is a common phenomenon in Polish cities. I also wrote that as of May 2018 (it is the actual date of writing the post named „External Factors”), I still did not buy a protective smog mask. Was I stupid? Probably yes. Still, the fact is that I bought a protective smog mask in November 2018. That’s why I felt that I must update information about the lack of a protective mask. What’s most interesting, I did not walk as much as I planned in this mask between 11.2018 and 03.2020. I was tracing information about the pollution level in Warsaw’s air. Luckily, there was not as much smog as I thought there would be.
Nevertheless, after the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Poland, I regularly used my protective smog mask (including the N95 filter).
Am I glad that I use my mask while taking photographic walks while going to the local grocery or using the subway? No. I would prefer that no one would use these kinds of covers. Both air pollution problems and all circumstances referring to the pandemic of COVID-19 are a great tragedy for all humans. Indeed, it is unfortunate that we have to protect our bodies from external dangers like viruses or smog.
Still, the fact is that buying a protective smog mask was a good, healthy and reasonable purchase. Safety is crucial for every one of us, and we should not underestimate all risks connected with these issues. I hope that there will be times when we go to the walk or to the shop without having to wear a mask on one’s face, but I doubt that both smog and pandemic problems would end soon.
