Read Taschen!

July 8, 2019 by Adam Mazek

The last time I realized that in 2018 I read practically only Taschen’s books. Reading and analyzing books published by a German editor is one enormous feast for the mind, imagination, and soul.

The only exception when I did not read Taschen’s books in 2018 was during vacations. We went with my Girlfriend Kamilka to Mazuria Lake. While staying there, I read Leo Tolstoy’s book “The Kreutzer Sonata.” For today, I’m in love with Taschen’s book. I suppose that this feeling will last until the end of my life. Why do those books charm me so much? I believe that the answer is because of the highest quality images and texts. Read Taschen! It is my message to you, my Dear Friend.

After reading, analyzing, and contemplating practically all Taschen’s books, which I possess in my house(+40 specimens), I realized one thing. It is crucial to present both images and texts on the highest possible levels.

For example, let’s take a closer look at Leonardo da Vinci’s artistic heritage. There are a lot of texts already published about it. Also, there are many albums on the market with paintings and drawings of the famous Italian master. But, it is the Taschen’s XXL edition named “Leonardo da Vinci. The Complete Paintings and Drawings,” which is a true masterpiece! Frank Zöllner and Johannes Nathan are the ones who wrote this book. When I read it, when I analyze all the details of da Vinci’s paintings and drawings, I see that it is a comprehensive best way to know the Italian master’s artworks.

Undoubtedly, it is a much more efficient and precise way to know da Vinci’s artistic heritage than scrolling through the Internet.

What is more, I believe that it is a better way to understand it than walking through the museums of Europe. Why?

1) It is just impossible to collect all the artworks presented in the book in one place.
2) It is not possible to analyze all the details and find so much a piece of comprehensive information on the Internet.

To summarize, I would like to encourage you, my Dear Friend, to read Taschen. Believe me. You will not regret it.
