Reality is stranger than fiction

June 10, 2019 by Adam Mazek

I think that reality is stranger than fiction. We all know that there are a lot of odd, bizarre, and unusual artworks. But, the inspirations for practically all of them were primarily taken from reality.

What examples of strange artworks could I give you today, my Dear Friend? For instance, those:

a) In the photography artworks of Joel-Peter Witkin’s “Un Santo Oscuro,” Robert Mapplethorpe (“The Perfect Moment”) or Bruce Gilden’s “Face.”

b) Regarding paintings, we can find odd things, for example, in Zdzislaw Beksinski’s artworks, Salvador Dali’s paintings (e.g., “The Lugubrious Game”), or his erotic sketches and drawings. Another example of horrifying paintings is Caravaggio’s paintings, which depict murderers. One of the examples is the “Judith Beheading Holofernes” painting.

c) In the history of the cinema, there are also a lot of creepy and strange horrors and thrillers. For example, Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the lambs,” Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks,” or Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion.”

All the artworks mentioned above (and many, many others), even though their creators invented them in their imagination, possess many features familiar with reality.

Indeed, many artworks were inspired by mundane reality and everything surrounding us.
My artistic activity is not an exception. Contrary, I present the mundane places in my pictures. Nevertheless, this reality is shown with my personal, creative filter. I do not have to dig deep down to inspire the Universe or outer worlds. Truth is stranger than fiction. Usually, it provides a lot of unusual and breathtaking events. Thus, there are a lot of odd and bizarre works of art.

It is the surrounding us reality, which is unusual and eccentric. Many scenarios to the movies, games, etc., were provided and inspired only by facts. Some plots were so unique (e.g., 11/09) that it was impossible to predict such happenings in literature, movies, etc.
Ok, I am going out to check the streets of Warsaw. The reality visible there is much stranger than fiction on the Internet.
