Undoubtedly, the more weight I carry while rucking and doing street photography, the worse my reflex in taking photos becomes.
I wrote this text on the 2nd of June, 2025. It was a day when I had to take a break from rucking and doing street photography due to my office work responsibilities (remember, my Dear Friend, I work in a broadly defined Finance world). Still, before I began writing this text, I was unsure of the topic I should address. Then, I recalled my thoughts from yesterday’s walk, when I was carrying an additional burden of 37.5 kg (83 lbs) on my back and shoulders. The first thought that came to mind was that walking with such a heavy rucksack truly hurts.
It truly hurts.
Then, I recalled that I was like a very slow turtle (not the first time in my life while rucking). This turtle is really slow. I think that the more weights I lift, the fewer steps I will take. That’s the way it is. Thus, I won’t see as many various places as earlier, when I was not walking with a heavy rucksack. I still cannot determine if it affects the quality and variety of my photographs. Perhaps it would impact it. Another case was my thoughts about reflex while doing street photography. Earlier, when my backpack weighed little, I was moving really fast, and sometimes I felt like a hunter whose victims were not people or animals but photographs.
Now, being a turtle, I feel that I photograph really static objects.
Thus, perhaps, in a long-term period, my street photography would become more and more contemplative. The truth is that in my photographs, there was never too much action. Still, I believe it will be better to judge if rucking affected the quality of my photos over the following decades. The potential impact on the quality of my photographs is a question that lingers in my mind.
