War in Ukraine. Ukrainians are role models for me.

Today I will explain why the Ukrainians became role models for me.

I wondered what I would do if the Russian army attacked Poland throughout the years of my life. I sometimes imagined escaping to the United States and trying to help my homeland as a refugee. Or, I sometimes imagined myself that during times of war, I stay in Warsaw and do all my best, including taking a gun, to protect my homeland. Today (I wrote this text on the 5th of March, 2022), I know what I would have done. I would stay in Warsaw to fight the aggressor.

It is not the case that I probably would not be able to escape from Poland during the war. In Ukraine, men between 18 and 60 cannot leave the country. The truth is that many Ukrainians are coming back to their homeland from abroad to fight the fucking Putin’s army. That’s how they become role models for me. If the Russians attacked Poland, I would go to the nearest place to get a gun and do something efficiently to protect Poland.

Indeed, Polish history knows many brave people who devoted their lives to protecting their homeland from their enemies.

The first people who come to my mind are people fighting in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Many times the Polish enemies were the Russians or the Germans. Undoubtedly, both nations were our enemies during the Second World War. Today, I feel that most Poles, including myself, already have forgotten that peace is not given to all of us forever. Now I see that we should fight for peace. How? By increasing funds for the army. I have no doubt that becoming strong in arms is the only way to minimize the possibility of being attacked. What if the fucking Putin’s military attacked Poland? I hope to stay in my homeland until the end of my life. Ukrainians showed me that there is nothing to fear regarding the Russian army. They showed me the way. They became my role models.
