This post will be about the most extensive geographical area named Siberia.
Do I plan to write here that sometimes we, Kamilka and me, dream about moving to Siberia? Speaking shortly: we sometimes daydream about moving to the little house by Lake Baikal. Today, I will not focus on this matter. Nevertheless, living by the vastest and deepest lake on the Earth must be an exciting option. Undoubtedly, this kind of living also possesses disadvantages. However, why we can’t dream about such a life? Ok, let’s move to the main topic.
In my opinion, Russia may be the primary beneficiary of global warming. To be more precise, the winner could be Siberia. Why?
The reason is apparent. It is climate change. From the currently unfriendly areas, which are ice-covered in winter and have the highest negative temperatures in the world, in the summer, in turn, the land turns into one, massive, impassable mud with an enormous number of mosquitoes, a vast liveable area, can appear. Given the mineral resources that are found there, I dare say, there is a bright future ahead of Siberia. The reason for that is rising global temperatures.
The fact is that the inscrutable area of the vastest region in the world (13,100,000 km2 [5,100,000 sq mi]) provides almost indefinite possibilities to move there new population.
Of course, I want to stress that this region will be more attractive to others if the temperature rises. The truth is that the process of global warming is still being proceeded. We, the people, have limited powers to stop this process. For today, Siberia is enchanting me. On the other hand, the vast area makes me scared. If we add the fact that one of the worst labor camps were placed in Siberia, by Stalin, it provides a view of a not-so-friendly region. By the way, I wonder what Putin would say, if he would receive information in 2030 that, let’s say 10,000,000 from all over the world, would declare that they want to move to Siberia. Would it be a chance for Russia or a threat?
