Have you ever dreamt of the trip around the world?
I am sure you did. I think about it almost every day. The fact is that I live in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. It’s a quite strange and peculiar city (like most of the towns in my country), but surely it is a unique place. Nonetheless, I think about journeys almost every day. For example, I often dream about going to Japan (Tokyo, Mount Fuji), Australia (Sydney, Great Barrier Reef), Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Trans-Siberian Railway), USA (NYC for the 2nd time, San Fransisco) or Canada (Toronto, Vancouver).
The truth is that after wondering about all these journeys, I always start to think about the citizens of all the countries mentioned above.
As a result, I always start to wonder if other people dream of visiting Warsaw. Therefore, I suddenly begin to look around the place where I live, and I try to see the world through the eyes of tourists. I’m starting to be curious what’s behind the block of flats situated nearby. I suddenly want to know and see what’s behind the nearest building. I need to go off the beaten track and get out of my house and start to wander with my camera. I’m beginning to think about the neighboring district. I try to imagine how people live there. How do they look like, what problems they have, in what living conditions do they live, what’s their neighborhood look.
I quickly realize that I do not have to go abroad to widen my horizons, to discover the new microworlds, to meet other interesting people.
Of course, I still want to take long journeys around the world, but I realize that there is a lot to see in my city. And that’s good. Moreover, that is beautiful. I think that we all should start to appreciate the regions, cities, and countries we live in. We all should try to start looking for in our ordinary, usual, and mundane surroundings new microworlds.
Moreover, we should try to seek beauty in our daily routines. Thanks to photography, I can immortalize these places. I photograph them and save them on the memory card. Why I do it? I want to keep these views for posterity.
I sincerely encourage you, my Dear Guest, to do the same.
Wherever you live.
