This text will refer to one of the greatest The Police songs, “Spirits In The Material World.”
Spiritual reality. It is the only both mundane and fantastical reality I know. After all, aren’t we spirits in a material world? I noticed I wrote many posts about The Beatles during the last time. Earlier, I wrote many texts about David Bowie. Regarding The Police band, I wrote, among others, about the “Invisible Sun” tune. Still, today (I wrote this text on the 17th of July, 2023), I want to emphasize that The Police provided a pearl of great wisdom that we are spirits in the material world. I suggest that, perhaps, we are spirits trapped in our earthly bodies. Is only death the ultimate rescue for our souls that will free us of earthly bonds? I do not know it. Perhaps it is true.
Still, I believe we do not have to die to feel paradise here on Earth.
I think that creating art can evoke, cherish, and nourish these outer-world spirits. We can hear and feel it while listening to the “Spirits in the Material World” song. While doing street photography, I always try to evoke my spirits living in my flesh. I know that without writing, taking photos on Warsaw’s streets, preparing “Diaries'” editions, managing the www.adammazek.com website, and preparing sets of pictures like “Negation of The End,” or “Big Brother,” otherwordly spirits living in my flesh would die sooner than later. When I see The Police video clips, I see that great artists, with Sting at the forefront, would die internally without composing, creating, singing, and playing music. In today’s post, I want to encourage you, my Dear Friend, to evoke and cherish otherworldy spirits deep inside you. Do not seek them by doing drugs. I recommend broadly defined artistic processes.
