Back to the past, part II

December 25, 2017 by Adam Mazek

Inspired by L.E.M.

Part II

– But, the documentation!

– Our Master was afraid of losing his job. He had credits. That is why he wanted to disguise this accident. He naively believed that somehow, this disaster could bring some real and tangible effects, excellent results. Moreover, he thought that the program L.E.M. would somehow improve the pace of Mars colonization process. Although it was human Stanislaw Lem, who was sent back to the past. Our Master was wrong. Time and place for program L.E.M were not favorable. Moreover, L.E.M. was only a human being; he wasn’t an android. He was a genius but not a superman. Fantastic, phenomenal, and timeless visions interweaved in his mind with those less successful. Our Master hoped that Stanislaw Lem would become as appreciated scientist as Copernicus or Isaac Newton was.

Finally, Lem became well reputable, world-famous science-fiction writer and philosopher.

– I know who Stanislaw Lem was! – shouted Professor Wilkins.

– He wrote a lot of books. – continued assistant Chris. – Unfortunately, during the fatal experiment, we cleaned up his memory. It was regarding solving the most challenging and urgent humankind’s issues. He did not help as much as our Master was expecting.

Besides, even if we would have sent him as a cyborg, he could not develop his skills as much as necessary because of the time and place where he was born. The XX century Poland was not a convenient place to prepare Mars colonization. What is worse, The Second World War broke out when Lem was 19 years old. He could only use his incredible wisdom and imagination to write novels and essays.

The mission of the cyborg, who was supposed to be sent back to 2300 to speed up the process of Mars colonization never took place. All the documentation regarding fake mission were falsified. I want to apologize to Professor. We had too much vodka.

– I cannot believe that, Chris! Both, you and Stanley were supposed to not have any disadvantages in your character and performance. You were supposed to be a super-scientists! I think that our genetic-science also made some terrible mistake while creating all the supermen living on our planet. Now I see that imperfect humankind cannot create perfect things.

The end.
