Street Vagabond.

July 8, 2024 by Adam Mazek

Sometimes, I see myself as a street vagabond.

I love strolling through Warsaw’s streets. I wrote this text on the 26th of May, 2023. It was an ordinary, warm day filled with street photography during my spare time. I was walking the Stary Mokotow neighborhood. While walking, I reminded myself that I am not only a street vagabond but a street photographer who loves rocking in the clouds with feet stomping firmly on the ground. Undoubtedly, I am also a daydreamer who loves imagining many things. Still, my eyes are focused on everything in my surroundings. What does being a street vagabond mean for me? It means I sometimes have nowhere to go.

Going further, it means I can go everywhere and do street photography.

Do people stare at me in disbelief? Yes, but it happens only during cold seasons, autumn and winter. During frigid temperatures, I walk in summer clothes (including the www.adammazek.com t-shirt, sneakers, shorts, winter cap, and gloves). I have been doing it since the Fall/Winter of 2021/2022. During warmer seasons (spring and especially summer), people do not stare at me with disbelief. I just wander, take pictures, and stroll further.

Usually, I do not have any purpose for my wandering.

Sometimes, I have an initial plan. Still, I typically do not stick to this plan. It is a moment when I realize I am a totally free man. Speaking briefly, for a while, I have become a street vagabond. Or, I would name myself an alien who had just landed in Poland’s capital and is curious about everything he sees. That’s why I take pictures of mundane objects like rags or garbage. I enjoy doing it not because I touch or smell it but because I feel alive and accept everything life brings to me right here and now.
