Sunlight.

November 15, 2022 by Adam Mazek

Without sunlight, nature and everything surrounding us would be black and dark.

I wrote many times here, on the www.adammazek.com website, that I have an ambivalent attitude towards sunlight. On the one hand, the most magical sun rays we can experience are the ones that appear during the night. How can we feel them? By staring into the Moon. Earth’s satellite reflects sunlight. That’s why Moon “shines.” Today (I wrote this post on the 8th of September, 2021), I wanted to write about another issue regarding sun rays. The truth is that the beginning of September 2021 was a sunny period. I want to stress that sunlight in September is good for me.

Contrary to murderous sun rays from June or July. The latter I do not like because they are literally burning my skin. I cannot imagine sunbathing during the summer period. When I was younger, I had no problem with this issue.

Nevertheless, the truth is that I can direct my face towards the sun in September, but not during the hot summer months.

Is that mean that I hate burning sun rays? No. As I mentioned at the beginning of this text, there would be total darkness here, on our beloved planet Earth, without sunlight. Without light, there would be no photography.

The word “photography” was created from the Greek roots: photos (light) and graphé (drawing). Thus, photography means “drawing with light.” Without sunlight, the only thing I can do during long autumn and winter days is to take inspiration from the most astonishing album ever recorded, Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon.” Or, I can re-read the marvelous book “Sun and Moon” (Phaidon) about discovering the Universe. That’s why my attitude towards sunlight is ambivalent. I love it in September, but I do not like it during the hot summer months. The crucial thing is that without sun rays, there would be no light on Earth and my passion.
