Take a walk because tomorrow you may die.
I wrote this text on the 27th of January, 2022. Last few days, I heard many people tend to say „Carpe Diem” – enjoy the present and not worry about the future. Hundreds of years earlier, many people would say „Memento Mori” – remember you can die shortly. For me, the message of these two Latin proverbs is quite similar. Live – right here and right now because no one gave you a guarantee that you will wake up the next day.
For me, symbolically, walking is the essence of life. If you feel the desire, my Dear Friend, to get up and wander – do it! Take a walk for yourself. I recommend doing it because you never know if the current walk will be your last one. I wrote this text during a period when I had been sitting for many hours in the office. Indeed, I was seated much more hours than usual. It is because we had to prepare financial statements for 2021 in the accountancy.
Because I was sitting more, I was walking less than usual.
I know that this period will not last forever and that I can always walk in the evening in frigid temperatures. Still, the truth is that wandering through Warsaw’s streets during daylight with a camera in my hand is the essence of existence. Many people, including invalids or prisoners, cannot go out of their houses and walk. For me, walking is a synonym for freedom. That’s why I choose the walking option if I doubt whether to stroll or not. Take a walk, my Dear Friend, if you feel the same. Enjoy the freedom and the possibility of movement. Have fun while sightseeing and wandering through not only your holiday destinations but also your local neighborhoods. Walk for your proper health and well-being.
