The more heavyweights I carry while rucking and doing street photography, the more photos I take while taking a break on a bench.
I wrote this text on the 14th of June, 2025. Today, I made a specific streak. I was rucking for the 3rd day in a row with 37.5 kg (83 lbs) on my back and shoulders, taking a minimum of 10k steps. During all three walks, I needed to take breaks on benches. Do I consider time spent on or near the bench as a waste of time? After all, before I started rucking, I’d never taken breaks on benches. No, I do not consider time spent on benches as a waste of time. It is because I decided to take at least one photo while on the break. That is when I could take off my weighty rucksack.
In practice, I noticed I take more than one picture while on a break from rucking.
Of course, taking photos while taking a break on the bench does not have to mean photographing literally from the bench. Sometimes, I stand or walk near the bench (or the bus stop, sometimes I am relaxing on the empty bus stop), and then I am looking for a proper frame to photograph. I know I’ve written in a past post stating that one can take a good picture from each point on Earth. While taking a break from rucking, I am only reassuring myself with what I’ve written in the past. I was right.
There is no bad place to photograph. I believe that in each spot, we can find something interesting. Whether it would be a shadow, a selfie with the tree as a background, flying birds, driving cars, or passersby, we can continually create a good photo, no matter where we are. It’s a joyous adventure to discover these spots and capture their essence.
