The last time I wrote, it was impossible to create The Beatles’ “The Best Of…” album because it should have contained the whole “Abbey Road” album and probably the “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club” album.
Nevertheless, today (I wrote this text on the 26th of August, 2023), I will provide other examples and prove that “The Best Of…” album will never be the most satisfactory one. Here is a short list of songs that did not appear on one of the “The Best Of…” albums. Still, when I realized how tremendous songs had gone from albums with the most popular songs, I realized it is impossible to create such albums not only for The Beatles but also for other bands.
Here we go:
- “You’re Lost Little Girl,” “Unhappy Girl,” and “I Can’t See Your Face In My Mind” by The Doors
- “Moonage Daydream” and “Soul Love” by David Bowie;
- “She’s So Cold” by The Rolling Stones;
- “Peanuts” by The Police (great and energizing Punk song!).
The songs above were missing from “The Best Of…” compilations I bought years ago. To date, I am still determining how it is possible that they were missing. Still, I understand that the record publishers necessarily had to limit themselves numerically to the songs and hence such and not other selections. Nevertheless, I did not get to know the songs above quickly because of this. Only over time did YouTube recommend them to me.
If you don’t know the above songs, my Dear Friend, drop everything you’re doing now and start listening to them. Do it for your mind, heart, and soul. For me, listening to music is one of the best ways to receive new inspiration practically from nothing. Do I recommend buying albums with the most popular songs? It depends. If you are simply curious about the artistic legacy of a musician, I recommend buying “The Best Of…” album. I suppose it will be a sweet surprise when you discover other great songs of the band that were not included on the album sooner or later.Â
