Undoubtedly, The Police is one of my favorite bands.
Still, I have ambiguous thoughts and feelings towards this world-famous band. Why? Because, on the one hand, I genuinely regret that their final single (“Don’t Stand So Close to Me ’86”) was released in 1986. By the way, I was born in 1985, so I cannot remember the active period of The Police band that lasted from 1977. It is sad for me that The Police band did not record any new hit since 1986. I wrote this post on the 11th of June, 2021. Thirty-five years have passed away since The Police released their definitive single. Still, on the other hand, maybe it is better that they disbanded. I know it sounds strange, but there would be no solo Sting’s career without separating The Police.
One of the most iconic and magical of Sting’s songs is “Englishman In New York.”
Many of Sting’s songs were compelling to me, but after hearing them for the thousandth time, I have enough of listening to them. The Queen band is probably one of the best examples that I can provide you, my Dear Friend, whose songs are boring to me, despite their virtuosity. I wrote more about this case in the post named “The problem with Queen songs.” Back to Sting, the “Englishman In New York” is an exception.
Every time I hear it on the radio, I make it louder.
I cannot imagine that this soothing tune will ever bore me. Still, I sometimes wonder how many fantastic songs could appear if The Police band would never disband. We never know that, but the truth is that we do not have to know answers to all questions. By the way, what are my favorite The Police songs are? These are “Invisible Sun,” “Walking on the Moon,” and “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.”
Regarding the first song, I already wrote a post about it. You can find it here. In the post named “Back to the Moon,” I referred to the second song. Concerning the last tune, I will write more about this song in the context of my beloved Kamilka.
