This post will be a reference to the text from the past.
I want to refer to the post named “Shooting pictures of the strangers.” I read it while I was preparing “Diaries 08.2018 – p. I” edition. The fact is that I love making reference to my texts from the past. For me, it is some kind of internal dialogue with myself. To which part of the text I want to refer? Here is the quotation:
When it comes to me, there are undoubtedly many reasons why I try to avoid putting humans in my pictures. About the first and the most important reason, I will write in the future in a separate post. It will be a long story and is connected to my graduation work. But, other reasons are quite clear.Â
My graduation work was about my beloved Brother, Marcinek, who died while he was 13 (I was 9 years old when it happened). I believe that since this traumatic event, I feel that someone’s missing in my life. Is that mean that I feel lonely? No. I live with my beloved Kamilka, I possess loving parents, friends. The fact is that I do not feel alone.
Nevertheless, avoiding adding people to the frame of pictures symbolically tells me that, still, someone is missing in my existence.
Other reasons for not adding people are quite clear. Sometimes I simply do fear a little bit of taking photos of other people. I would be a liar if I would have told you that street photographing is safe. I do all my best to avoid any dangerous situations, but sometimes I wonder how my passion would look like if I would be a girl. By writing it, I think that I would be exposed to some strange teasing from other people. I know that feminists are probably mad while they reading it. Still, I simply feel that thanks to the fact that I am a man, the probability of an attack on me is much lower than being a woman.
Back to the main topic, the fact is that like to go against the stream.
I already wrote that my page is anti-mainstream. If you look at many tutorials regarding photography and street photography, you will notice that many would advise you to add humans to the frame. I go the opposite. If many people tell me to add a silhouette to the picture, I often try to eliminate the human from the frame. Thus, I can sometimes wait until people would disappear from the frame. It is my artistic approach to which I stick. Of course, sometimes I break this rule, but, in general, I avoid placing humans in my street photographs. Ok, that would be enough regarding writing about the reference to the text from the past. Have a beautiful day, my Dear Friend!
