Sometimes when I look at my photos, I wonder what I have in my head? I believe that we all, as humans, without exceptions, are a riddle.
We are the riddle in that people’s behavior, in general, is hard to predict. Fyodor Dostoyevsky precisely described this kind of dilemma. Famous Russian writer sufficiently expressed it in one of his most famous novels, “Notes from the Underground.” He defined this phenomenon as a factor that makes us humans. Dostoyevski wrote that as long as our doings are unpredictable or irrational until we all are still humans. I agree with that statement. Also, I would say that the irrationality of our doings makes our world more confused.
Now, I would like to write something about my photographs.
To be more precise, I will describe the thoughts and feelings that I possess while making photographs. I wonder what kind of feelings I have while taking such pictures, as we can see here, on this webpage. For example, let’s search the “Sex and the City” sentence on my website and see what photos I added to this post. I wonder how I may see such things in the surroundings as we can see in the “Sex and the City” post.
If I would make straightforward, predictable images, I would probably travel to the mountains and create beautiful, picturesque photos of the landscape. But, I do not do this. I still want to focus on my urban, Warsaw’s surroundings. It is tough to explain why I see an odd, even bizarre, and creepy part of reality in mundane places. Maybe I possess a mental disorder? Or, perhaps every one of us is more or less affected by the mental disorder.
For me, it is also a riddle.
Nevertheless, I think that paradoxically, despite the unusual, odd, and sad nature of my photos, I believe that I carry a positive message. Although we all are a riddle, we can create art. We can develop a lot of things, first in our imagination, and then by using tools. My way is photography. Despite being a riddle, I believe that thanks to art, many people can try to find the answers to many existential questions, both connected with ourselves, others, and the Universe as a whole.
