The Universe

December 23, 2020 by Adam Mazek

Many famous geniuses in their works of art often referred to the Universe, stars, planets, the sun, the moon, the cosmos, extraterrestrial life.

Which geniuses did it? I will give some examples: Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Stanisław Lem, David Bowie, The Police band, Salvador Dali, Zdzisław Beksiński, or Stanley Kubrick.

Why were they doing this? Indeed, each of them would present and explain their unique version. Nevertheless, it seems that the artists refer to the broadly defined Universe to rise above the gray reality of the world around them. I am convinced that by creating, they want to give meaning to their existence and everything surrounding them. For me, creating photos or texts is also, in a sense, a desire to find the meaning of human life.

What examples of my work of arts also refer to the Universe?

First of all, “Earth Wars” in the PDF file version. It is a story about robot-like Aliens who accidentally landed on the planet Earth. People attacked them because they thought that robot-like creatures are hostile. Nevertheless, it is the people who turned out to be aggressive. The subsequent text that I can give you as an example of my frolicking with the Universe is a short story named “His Master’s Fart.” This work tells us about decoding by people the message from space. It turned out that Aliens provided the word, but the sound of it was people’s fart. The Alien, who sent this message to the people, named Ulnuk, received a reprimand. Why? Because the United Dimensions organization forbade contact with undeveloped civilizations for their own good and safety.

Stanislaw Lem’s writings inspired me to write the works mentioned above.

By writing all these things, I wanted to stress that the Universe still is, and, undoubtedly will be, a riddle to solve for humanity. Moreover, I also wanted to rise above the grey reality that surrounds us. I did it with a similar joy as geniuses mentioned at the beginning of the post.
