The last time I wrote, I did not buy a book within the previous four months. Today, I decided to buy a book.
I wrote this text on the 25th of April, 2022. My favorite bookstore named „Bookoff” announced that starting from the 7th of May, 2022, there will be a massive sale on their website and in bookstores. I decided that this time I will buy a book. Why? The „Bookoff” wrote that since the war in Ukraine broke out, their sales of books decreased dramatically. Somehow I am not surprised by it. When I see footage and pictures of destroyed Ukrainian buildings, thoughts appear in my mind:
There is no use in investing in material things: books, cars, apartments, etc.
Still, after seconds I realized that war won’t reach Poland. The truth is that the fucking Putin’s army has a tremendous problem capturing a single village in Eastern Ukraine. The only danger they can do is bombard Ukraine’s infrastructure, including blocks of flats with civilians. That’s why I hate Putin. I won’t understand how one man could give the order to kill civilians. Ok, back to the main topic, I think people can invest in material things in Poland. That’s why I decided to buy a minimum of one book to help „Bookoff” to survive the crisis. I know that since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in March 2020 in Poland, the trend of selling books peaked at the highest level. I also made a contribution to this happening.
The truth is that I was buying more books than usual during the pandemic. I am not surprised that other people also did it.
The perspective of being locked down in a house captured the imagination of all people who regularly read books. That’s why many of them started to buy more positions. Today, there is a war in Poland’s neighboring country. The Polish book market has its own crisis. That’s why this time I will buy a book. I will contribute to helping „Bookoff.” I hope that I will buy something from Taschen or Phaidon publishing house. Undoubtedly, I will write what I bought during the sale on „Bookoff” in the future.
