To know yourself, you have to put yourself to the test.

October 7, 2025 by Adam Mazek

I do it in a controllable way. How? If you read my blog regularly, undoubtedly, you know. Still, I never know who and when will start to read my blog. That’s why I will write about how I stress my body and how I put myself to the test to know myself better.

It all started with intermittent fasting in Christmas 2020. Speaking shortly, for over four years (I wrote this text on the 1st of March 2025), I’ve been eating for more than 95% of the days, not earlier than 7 p.m. Of course, my organism has been used to this way of life for years. Still, not providing food to organisms is a way of stressing and testing oneself. When I lost some kilograms, and once my weight became stable, I realized I started to feel better and, what is better, know myself better. Another way of putting myself to the test and leaving my comfort zone is to take cold showers and walk in freezing summer clothes.

The first activity I started doing was in April 2021, and the second was in the Fall/Winter 2021/2022 season.

Exposing one’s body is not only a healing and refreshing experience but also one that can provide a truly euphoric, natural state of mind. Testing one’s ability to overcome cold is one of the best ways a human can make himself know himself better. The last activity, rucking, I started doing in the middle of August 2024. Today, I walk with an additional weight in my rucksack of 26 kg (57 lbs). How happy I am that I will increase this weight within the next few days.

Walking with such a heavy rucksack hurts. It is a test of endurance, the resistance of not only the body but also the soul. The older I am, the more I understand that to know yourself, you have to put yourself to the test. Self-testing is a crucial tool in the journey of self-discovery and personal development. By challenging your limits and pushing your boundaries, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and grow as an individual. The experiences mentioned above have been transformative, inspiring me to push my limits and discover new aspects of myself.
