Two steps to becoming an independent artist.

How to become an independent artist? I often think about it. I believe that there are two aspects about which we should consider.

We can freely call them two rules to becoming an independent artist.

1) Do not think about money. Forget about it.

When I started to make photographs, I never imagined and did not analyze how much money I would earn. Since the beginning (October 2015), photography has been and still is my passion. It is an absolute joy of life. Walking through the streets of Warsaw, I feel like a child discovering the surrounding of his world. There was no place and time to think about money. For most of the time, until my candidature was not accepted on ArtFinder, I did not analyze in terms of “how much money I can earn thanks to my passion?”
Speaking shortly: I believe that the first step to becoming an independent artist is to forget about money.

2) Do not ask what art can do for you. You’d better ask what you can do for art.

What exactly do I mean? Study biographies of most famous artists (e.g., Stanley Kubrick, Salvador Dali, or Zdzislaw Beksinski). See that all the most famous artists devoted their lives to art. They were continually contemplating what their artistic activity could provide to the world of art. They did not think about what the world of art could bring to them. I am not an exception. I decided to endeavor my life in art. Like all mentioned-above artists and many others, I want to inspire all future generations.

But why should we devote our existence to art? Why this precise area of our culture?

Because:
– art possesses healing powers;
– it releases one’s soul;
– art develops our mind and imagination;
– it motivates us in our doings, gives a kick to action;
– art inspires us;
– art empowers us as humans.
