Unobvious Warsaw.

April 28, 2024 by Adam Mazek

I would say that all my photographs presented on the www.adammazek.com website could be named “Unobvious Warsaw.”

If you google “Warsaw,” my Dear Friend, and click on the “graphics,” your eyes will see many tremendous, colorful pictures of Warsaw’s architecture, including skyscrapers and relics. Undoubtedly, these photographs are beautiful. What else could I write about them? Nothing. They are magnificent. Period. I am not interested in such a presentation of the capital of Poland. Warsaw is too engaging to present only as a colorful city. I’m interested in showing Warsaw’s guts. That’s why I photograph, among others, waste or old rags. I do not take pictures of the tremendous Warsaw’s Old Town. Why? It is because it is dull for me. I have seen it too many times. There are too many photographs of it on the web.

I choose paths where only locals with their dogs or the homeless walk. I decided to photograph places where the streets have no name.

If you listen to U2 songs, undoubtedly, you know what I mean, my Dear Friend. I have already written a text entitled “Urbex.” The truth is that I love to explore old, ruined, and forgotten buildings. That’s why I would name all my pictures “Unobvious Warsaw.” Like all other places and humans, Warsaw has many different faces. Masks, I would say. While writing all these things, I recalled that I already wrote a post entitled “The Mask.” Today (I wrote this text on the 11th of March, 2023), I want to state all my creative works, with Warsaw’s images at the forefront, are unobvious and ambiguous. My personal Warsaw raises doubts regarding many things.

My photographs may sometimes seem even ugly.

Still, presenting only the beauty of the capital of Poland looks boring. I want to show the beauty in the dirt and ugliness. I love art and expressing myself. Undoubtedly, Warsaw will be a space for my creative explorations for the next decades. After all, it is only the beginning of my creative journey. I have regularly done street photography for eight years (since 2015).
