Last time I recalled that there was a word for urban exploration named “urbex.”
I wrote this text on the 16th of October, 2021. It was a day when I was walking and doing street photography in the Odolany subdivision (part of Warsaw’s Wola district). While doing street photography that day, I walked alongside railways, among others. I saw homeless shelters and old, ruined PKPs (Polskie Koleje Panstwowe – Polish State Railways) buildings. While exploring all these weird places, I had thought if I spotted corpses nearby, I would not be surprised. Was I scared? I do not think so. While doing urban exploration, I always have my eyes wide open. My hearing is becoming more sensitive to everything that surrounds me. I like urbex. I love to explore old, abandoned buildings.
It was not the first time when I was doing it.
I have already explored many ruins in Warsaw and in other cities. Even when I write this text, I remember that adrenaline is practically always buzzing in my blood while doing it. I believe that all photographers who do urbex feel similar adrenaline while exploring strange places. I know that many abandoned buildings are waiting for me to be explored. Undoubtedly, most of them are in the city where I do street photography, in my favorite, Warsaw. Did I take photos in Odolany wearing only a t-shirt? Yes, of course. Still, I did not break my record that day. It was pretty cold, that is, +7 degrees Celsius (~45 degrees Fahrenheit).
Still, as for the 16th of October, 2021, my walking record in cold temperatures wearing only a t-shirt was +2 degrees Celsius. Ok, I will stop writing. I must take rest and sleep. Tomorrow I will also be walking in cold temperatures. Do I plan to do urbex? I do not know. I never know where my foot will direct me while strolling in Warsaw.
