Last time I was thinking about social media platforms. The fact is that, in general, they are operating thanks to people’s vanity.
I am not an exception. Like most of us, I like receiving likes on Facebook and Instagram. Since I possess an account on Instagram, I noticed that publishing photographs on this platform are another activity regarding my hobby. I like to do it, but the longer I am on this platform, the more I see that all other accounts are doing the same. They are adding pictures to feed one’s ego and vanity.
Now I see that all the social media platforms are based on this difficult-to-explain people’s desire to fulfill their vanity.
But what can we do with that? The only possible way is probably to eliminate both Facebook and Instagram. Humans are imperfect. No matter how hard we try to deny that we possess an account on social media platforms because of our vanity, the more it is impossible to prove it is invalid. Of course, there are accounts on social media platforms focused only on business, but without the vanity of usual people, such statements would not exist.
Moreover, even the most prominent companies possess enormous egos. Such firms are focused on maintaining more and more followers/fans.
It is normal. These companies will say that they do it because they run a business, and it is true. But, the vanity is hiding somewhere between the lines. They want to possess more followers than their biggest competitors. Running a business is the only partial answer to why they want to do that. Their rampant egotism and vanity are why they want more followers than their biggest competitors.
Can we do anything with the vanity connected with social media platforms? I do not think so. We all are humans, and arrogance is integral to our behavior.
