Walking in heavy snow and freezing winter.

February 10, 2024 by Adam Mazek

Today (I wrote this text on the 11th of December, 2022), I was walking in heavy snow and freezing winter.

I did not break my personal record by doing it. Still, it was the first time I walked in heavy snow and freezing winter from the beginning until the end of my strolling. This activity lasted for almost two hours. I made 10.200 footsteps. What was the temperature outside? It was -3 degrees Celsius (26,6 degrees Fahrenheit). The truth is that as of today, it was the lowest temperature I was walking during the Fall/Winter 2022/2023 season. Within the next two days, the temperature should be lower. Some forecasts foresee it should be -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit), and others predict even -12 degrees Celsius (10,4 degrees Fahrenheit).

Will I take an evening walk (I do evening walks in the middle of the week when I go to my office job) in such cold temperatures?

Yes, I plan to do it. My record is walking in summer clothes for forty minutes at -9 degrees Celsius (15,8 degrees Fahrenheit). I hope to break my record. Still, I know it will hurt if I manage to do it. What about heavy snow and freezing winter? Undoubtedly, these two issues make walking in frigid temperatures more challenging and demanding. They accelerate a feeling of coldness. It was much more difficult to walk in such circumstances. I felt my fingertips freezing.

Still, I knew I controlled it. Why?

Because I was wandering in my Mokotow district. At every moment, I could go to the restaurant or coffee shop, call a taxi, and return home. How happy I am I can walk in freezing temperatures and challenge myself by exposing my body to frigid cold. Two years ago, if someone would tell me I could do something like this, I would not believe him. Today, I cannot imagine stopping doing it.
