War in Ukraine. In music, I trust.

July 9, 2022 by Adam Mazek

The more extended war in Ukraine lasts, the more I see that music prevents me from not going crazy. That’s why in music, I trust.

Which bands do I listen to during one of the most brutal European wars after the Second World War? These are, for example:

– Fleetwood Mac (album “Rumours”);
– David Bowie (album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”);
– Jethro Tull (album “Thick as a Brick”);
– Jean-Michelle Jarre (albums: “Oxygène,” “Équinoxe,” “Magnetic Fields,” or “The Concerts in China.”).

Listening to music reminds me that I believe in life’s sense no matter everything around us. Even if I see in TV broadcasts that the world is cruel, I believe life is not senseless. Even if we do not know why we appeared on this planet and where we, as a human civilization, are going, we should fight for ourselves for a better tomorrow.

Today (I wrote this text on the 23rd of March, 2022), I have no doubts that Ukrainians are the ones who fight for not only their bright future but also for the rest of the world.

Evil seeds that sprout in the fucking Putin’s mind, heart, and soul must be overcome. No one ever will convince me that Putin is a good person. A reasonable person does not bombard innocent civilians. We cannot be afraid of this evil. Music gives me power and faith. It reminds me that we should not be frightened of anything. The truth is that I trust not only in music but also in broadly defined art. That’s why I do not give up doing street photography. Only force majeure, including war, can prevent me from taking photos on Warsaw’s streets, writing new texts, managing my blog, and preparing subsequent “Diares'” editions. Undoubtedly, we all can go our own way. I chose the creative one.
