Warsaw’s symbols

August 21, 2019 by Adam Mazek

I have already told it once and will say it many more times. I dream loudly. Today, I will stress that my dream is to become one of Warsaw’s symbols.

Is it the main aim of my artistic activities? No. My target is to have fun while doing it. But, I hope I will be remembered by posterity thanks to all my actions. To be more precise, I would like to become a symbol of the capital of Poland. Of course, I know that the first significant symbol of Warsaw is Chopin. I do not want to compete with him. Nevertheless, such a stunning city could possess a couple of cultural icons. There is always a place on the pedestal for someone new.

From Rome to Fellini, Dublin to Joyce, and Prague to Kafka – I, Adam Mazek, want to be as close to Warsaw as possible. I want my surname to be a synonym of Warsaw.

“Are you insane?” – Undoubtedly, you would ask me, my Dear Friend. Perhaps. But, I want to become one of the most prolific artistic photographers in the world. I want my creative fertility to become my main advantage. Warsaw is my principal place of activity. I want to immortalize this city in the same way as Atget did with Paris. I want to take photographs of Warsaw almost every day until the end of my life. Is it my obsession? Who knows. Probably yes.

Nevertheless, as of today, I do not have children. Thus, I give a lot of energy to photography, my most significant passion. I want to focus on becoming one of the most prolific photographers in the world. Thus, I don’t mind becoming the next symbol of Warsaw. Do I hope that they will start to build monuments of me? No. I hope that people who have little artistic knowledge when they hear “Warsaw” will unconsciously see, in their imaginations, my photographs. I want my pictures to become part of Warsaw’s symbols.
