What rucking taught me?

January 20, 2026 by Adam Mazek

Rucking, for those who may not be familiar, is the act of walking with a weighted backpack. Rucking taught me that a great and strong human cannot live with anxiety like most other men.

Thanks to rucking, I no longer think about how much I can be hurt by others or by any circumstances. Why? It is because rucking, in its very essence, is one of the most painful, both mentally and physically, experiences and exercises that people can undergo. I wrote this text on the 25th of July, 2025, after returning from a walk during which I was carrying 37.5 kg on my back and shoulders. I made almost 12k steps. It was a torment, a hell for me. I was sweating heavily. Still, I know it is worth diving deep into the world of pain to return as one of the greatest and robust men in the world. Yes, now, after completing this hectic activity, I feel almost like a Demigod who is not afraid of anything and possesses incredible superpowers.

These superpowers mean that no powers are ruling this world that cannot break me in some way, because I am able to do almost impossible things – carry heavy weights for a long time, which requires incredible power and resilience.

Undoubtedly, rucking helped me implement and practice the Stoic teachings from ancient masters like Seneca and Marcus Aurelius. While walking with a heavy weight on my back and shoulders, I try to find relief and consolation in pain and discomfort. Still, it is a tremendously difficult task. Rucking taught me that, indeed, there is no gain without pain. In general, since I started rucking, I feel and look significantly better than I did before. I’ve noticed a significant increase in my endurance, strength, and mental resilience. Still, I am the only one who knows how much pain and suffering I paid for this mental and physical growth. Was it worth it? Of course, it was. I hope to do rucking until the final days of my life.
