Undoubtedly, street photography can teach us how to think outside the box.
How? Street photography inspires we can go off the beaten path that most people follow. For example, when I seek unique pictures, I know that I must go opposite to most people. Practically everyone who is in Warsaw for the first time goes to the Old Town. I do not criticize such behavior because I usually start exploring a new city from a strictly touristic point of view. It is normal behavior.
Nevertheless, I do not take photos in Warsaw’s Old Town. I do not want to have photographs similar to most people who have visited the capital of Poland. While seeking odd images, I explore mundane suburbs, often in abandoned buildings. Moreover, I usually walk on paths where only local people with their dogs are strolling. I have no doubts that wandering by myself on unpopular tracks somehow inspires me to think outside the box.
Moreover, my way of doing street photography is doing it, in 90% of cases, alone.
That’s why I can contemplate and focus on my thoughts while doing street photography. It is the moment when sometimes the best ideas can come to my mind. These insights can often be considered „out of the box.” On the other hand, while doing street photography, I sometimes switch off my thinking. I am somehow resetting my mind by doing it and not thinking. After this activity, the best solutions to many issues often appear in my head.
I already wrote in one of my previous posts (entitled „Do you think outside the box?”) that we are somehow misled regarding the word „thinking.”
Often, the key to succeeding in thinking outside the box is to stop thinking. When you need to solve some issues and do not know how to do it, I recommend trying not to think about it. It is a moment when street photography can provide us with an incredible superpower. It can help us relax, calm down and be at peace. Later, after walking, doing street photography, and taking a nap, great things can happen. This is how I do. This is how I received many inspirations for subsequent texts. What about you, my Dear Friend? What superpowers can street photography evoke for you?
