Wherever I may roam

August 12, 2018 by Adam Mazek

Metallica’s one of the most famous songs could be an anthem for my creative activity. “Wherever I may roam” song undoubtedly marked its sign in my photographic passion.

I have already written about one of Metallica’s songs (“Of Wolf and Man”) in one of my previous posts. The fact is that I am re-discovering this band for myself once again, for the umpteenth in my life. I will describe another song from one of their best (in my opinion) album, named “Black Album.”  Like I mentioned in the first sentence, “Wherever I may roam.” the song could be an anthem for my creative activity in two ways.

The first one is strictly connected with my wandering through the mundane streets of Warsaw. When I go hunting for the photographs, I rarely know the aim of my walk.

Usually, I know only the start point. The direction of my walk is often unknown, even to me. I typically have some plan in which direction I will go, but I do not exclude the possibility of changing it. However, I want it. While making images on the streets, I feel like a “Rover, wanderer, nomad, vagabond” from the title song. I experience one hundred percent the feeling of freedom of what I do. It is the time when endorphins are somehow flowing through my brain and the whole body. Speaking shortly: I am in an ecstasy mood.

While walking, my blood is pumping through my veins so that all the cells are correctly oxygenated. I feel alive. Now I know why Metallica recorded their song with such passion and momentousness.

The second reason why “Wherever I may roam” song could be an anthem for my creative activity is that also running my website brings me a lot of joy and freedom. I found my place where I can be entirely independent and creative. It is the place where the opinion of other people becomes secondary. Of course, it does not mean that I want to fight with others by running this blog. Also, I do care about others’ opinions, but not as much as it was earlier.

The aim of this website is not to ruin relationships with other people, but to build, develop, and cement them. I want to cement these relationships through the prism of the art. My primary tool to do that is photography and writing. On the other hand, Metallica was playing and recording songs. Songs like magical “Wherever I may roam.” This kind of song will remain in humankind’s memory forever and will last much more than the lives of all the contemporary people. I hope that my website will become and stay as much appreciated as Metallica’s song.
