At first glance, my images seem mundane, boring, and usual. Nevertheless, I have no doubts that my photographs are unique.Â
I will start writing this text by reminding you that Earth is a unique place. Maybe there are similar to Earth planets (so-called exoplanets), but we still do not know if there is life on them. Even if life would occur on one of them, there is a very low possibility that this extraterrestrial life would be similar to the one we know. That’s why my photographs are unique. There is probably no comparable place to Warsaw in the entire Universe. Unless we consider that the Multiverse theory is correct, this theory can tell us that there can be an infinite number of Universes, similar to ours. Still, for today it is rather a science-fiction theory. We do not know if another Adam Mazek in the Universe is the President of the most powerful country in that parallel Universe or a well-known singer.
I am here and now. I believe that there is no duplication of me and my city, that is Warsaw.
That’s why my photographs are unique. There is no such place as Warsaw in the entire Universe. The common thing is dark matter, dark energy, and the dark void surrounding our planet and the Solar System and Milky Way galaxy. Is that mean that all pictures made by humans are unique? Yes, of course. Take a look, for example, at Eugene Atget’s photographs. The passage of time is another factor that makes all our pictures distinctive. Even if we see contemporary photographs as mundane, they will become genuinely unique within the next hundred years. I believe that people will admire and appreciate my photos, if not today, to happen in the future. The specific climate that occurs in my pictures, undoubtedly, will become a part of the history of art. Â
