The answer is simple: we never know when and where we will have an excellent opportunity to take a marvelous picture.
Of course, I mentioned in one of my previous posts that even if we do not have a camera at hand, we should analyze how to visualize the view of our surroundings. If we want to make progress in our passion, we should do our best to train it daily. For example, we can try to imagine how can we photograph something that we see. Nevertheless, wouldn’t it be simpler to take a picture with your camera?
I think it is always worth taking a picture of something ambiguous, unclear, unsaid, and compelling.
It is not the most important if people are present in the pictures or not. The great artist will cope with all the circumstances. It does not matter if you are going to work or take a simple walk. Moreover, it also does not matter if you live in a remote village where there is a higher possibility of seeing the tree than meet a human. If you live in the usual district with the mundane streets, you can always take a camera with you. If you do it, there is a chance that you will make a good photograph. Or, if you don’t do it, this view will remain only in your memory.
This memory will not be accessible to other people. Probably it will be forever gone with your death if you do not save it to the hard drive placed in your camera.
If you have a camera, I highly recommend and encourage you to take it always with you, even if you go to buy bread in your local shop.
You never know if you spot something interesting and worth to immortalize on the image. Of course, there won’t be a tragedy if you notice something unusual without making photographs. But, better ask yourself this simple question: is it better to take a picture or not? I think the answer is obvious. By bringing with you the camera (no matter if it is a smartphone or digital camera), you increase the chances of making another great photograph.
In fact, you can build up your portfolio, not by traveling all over the world but while doing all your daily activities.
You do not have to wait for your journey of life to make outstanding images. The fact is that you can do that while walking with your dog. That is why I always take my camera with me. I want to increase the chances to shoot as many outstanding pictures as possible.
