Why do I not look for my own space anymore?

August 14, 2024 by Adam Mazek

When I say I’m not looking for my own space, it’s because Warsaw is that space for me. It’s not about physical boundaries or a specific location. Warsaw, with its memories and experiences, has become my personal space.

Sometimes, I see Warsaw as my private city. It is not the case that I can do whatever I want or go wherever I want to. Warsaw is my private and intimate city because my earliest memories (connected with my Brother Marcinek, who died in the capital of Poland) are connected with this place. Undoubtedly, Warsaw is my center of the Universe. Does that mean that when I go to Brok, the center of my Universe is still in Poland’s capital? Of course, it is not. The center of my space is where I am, right here and right now. Still, the truth is that I have lived in Warsaw since September 2004.

I wrote this text on the 3rd of July, 2023. We can easily count that I have lived in Warsaw for nineteen years.

How old am I while writing this text? I am 38 years old. While writing all these things, I realized I have lived half of my life in Poland’s capital. That’s why I do not look for my own space anymore. Warsaw became my own space, microcosmos, throughout my years living here. Undoubtedly, it was a process. It happened unnoticed. I hope you also found your space on this planet, my Dear Friend. I wish all Ukrainians to return to their homes, places, and spaces. They earned this. While writing about all these things, I realized we deserved a peaceful and quiet place to live in.

How happy I am I do not have to look for my own space.

I simply have it. I live with my beloved Kamilka, I have beloved Parents and great friends, and I do not need anything more to be simply happy. My space is where I am.
