Today (I wrote this text on August 27th, 2023), I will explain why intermittent fasting is more than just a diet and trend.
I have been intermittently fasting since Christmas 2020. I wrote many times here, on the www.adammazek.com website, that I feel much better after starting it. For instance, I used to struggle with afternoon slumps and brain fog, but since I started fasting, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my energy levels and mental clarity. When I explain it to others, many tend to describe it as a “diet.” I reply that it is not a diet but a way of life. From an evolutionary point of view, human organisms are not used to digesting food all the time, like a cow (Haven’t I already written a text saying I am not a cow anymore?).
Cavemen did not have a fridge in the cave with Coca-Cola bottles and ice-creams.
They did not eat processed food named Snickers or Oreo. When they hunted the animal, they ate it. When there was spring and summer, they ate fresh vegetables and fruits. Thanks to doing it, they accumulated fat in their bodies, so during the long posting periods in winter, they did not starve because their organisms were “eating” their own fat tissues.
On a shorter micro-scale, a similar process happens when I do intermittent fasting.
When I do not eat for twenty or even twenty-four hours, my organism has time to purify itself. This process, known as autophagy, is a natural cellular cleansing process that can help prevent diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. It is a time when I feel much better and more robust, and the clarity of my thoughts is at the highest possible level. That’s why I do not see any possibility of naming intermittent fasting as a diet or trend. For me, it is the essence of life. I encourage you, my Dear Friend, to start reading books about fasting. I recommend Dr. Jason Fung’s “The Complete Guide To Fasting.” Do it for yourself. Treat it not as a diet and trend but as a lifestyle.
