Someone could ask: “Why most of your pictures are sad?”
For me, my images are not sad. These pictures can bring various thoughts and feelings to viewers. What kind of emotions there will be, it all depends on the viewer’s mood and experiences. Moreover, it depends on the viewer of how he transforms the artworks in his mind and imagination. Nevertheless, the fact is that I want my images to bring not necessarily these pleasant feelings in the viewer’s imagination. Why? I think that the most valuable artworks can bring to the viewer not necessarily benevolent feelings and good memories. Take a look at Hieronymus Bosch’s, Salvador Dali’s or Zdzislaw Beksinski’s paintings. Did they paint the peaceful and rural landscape? Try to remind movies like John Schlesinger’s “Midnight Cowboy,” Coen brothers “Barton Fink,” Frank Capra’s “Lost Horizon” or Roman Polanski’s “The Tenant.”. Not enough?
Read Dostoevski‘s or Lem’s novels and understand how little we know about ourselves (in spite of the continual development of science).
Face it. Read Seneca and realize that the more valuable is the life that possesses a lot of pain. It is a pain (whether mental or physical) that helps us to develop, to grow stronger and moves us forward. Listen to David Bowie’s (“Space Oddity” or “Warszawa“), R.E.M.’s, or Sting’s songs. By the way, two last music bands have their spectacular exceptions. R.E.M.’s “Shiny happy people” and Sting’s “Love Is The Seventh Wave” are a real anomaly because these are outstanding songs, and they are not sad! I love to come back to these songs. But, indeed, most of the songs of these music artists possess a melancholic mood.
These two songs show us that “happy” music (and artwork, in general) can be a real masterpiece.
But, as I wrote before, these are only the exceptions. For me, the general aim of Art is to bring emotions to one’s mind, soul, imagination, and heart. But these feelings do not have to be positive. The most important thing for me, regarding my photographs and texts, is to bring new, fresh thought into the viewer’s imagination and mind. I hope that my artworks will bring you, my Dear Guest, some memories, some original, inspirational ideas.
Moreover, I believe that my images and posts will force you to broaden your mindset. I want you to exercise your imagination. You can start to do it whenever you want. For what purpose? It will empower you. It will bring you a new, fresh approach to many existential issues.
Art will discover for you these things which are not found yet. Or, in the worst-case scenario, it will bring you “only” the fun.
PS
Above the mentioned post, I wrote the 1st of February 2018. Since Easter, and after a talk with my girlfriend Kamila, I possess the new, refreshed idea, of why my art could be viewed as sad. I am one hundred percent sure of this idea. Nevertheless, I will write about it in the future, because it is a long story. It is the story of my life.
