I wrote this text on the 3rd of October, 2023. It was a day when I found myself eagerly saying, “Winter! I am waiting for you!”
On the day when I wrote the ‘Winter! I am waiting for you!’ text, I realized it was probably the last warm day of the year. It was 26 degrees Celsius (78.8 degrees Fahrenheit) in Warsaw. It was hot (considering it was October). During the following days, it will be warm but not that much (between 16-17 degrees Celsius [60.8 – 62.6 degrees Fahrenheit]). Why do I write about all these things? Because I see and feel the temperatures will be only lower and lower until March/April 2024. The season of cooling my body while walking and doing street photography in freezing temperatures slowly became a reality. I simply cannot wait for it. The truth is I have done it since the Fall/Winter season between 2021/2022. Summer 2023 was hot, I must admit it.
But there’s something uniquely exhilarating about capturing the city in its winter coat, and I’m eagerly anticipating those moments.
I tried to focus on something other than writing about the weather during the previous months. Today, I simply felt euphoric when I realized cold Fall and Winter are getting closer. Since I started regularly doing street photography (October 2015), I’ve always been waiting for Spring and Summer because, during these seasons, days are long enough to take photos on Warsaw’s streets after my office work. Today, I am waiting for Fall and Winter at the same level of impatience. I am not a superhero or demigod.
Still, I feel I launch my superpowers when I walk in summer clothes (with gloves and a winter cap) in frigid temperatures. It is a moment when I feel truly alive, my senses heightened by the cold. I had never seen other such crazy people in Warsaw before. Am I the first one? When one considers that I walk in the www.adammazek.com t-shirt (yes, I am a walking advertisement of my creative activity), I believe I am the first such blogger worldwide.
