In today’s text (I wrote it on the 5th of June, 2024), I want to liberate you, my Dear Friend, to write with the freedom of knowing that no one will ever read your texts. This is your space, your canvas, your sanctuary of self-expression.
Of course, this text will be pretty similar to the one I wrote two days earlier (“Photograph as if no one should ever see your pictures.”). For me, both photography and writing are the foundation of all my creative activities. These two creative activities are the central part of everything you read and see on this blog. I approach both of them similarly. When I write, I feel as if I would write to myself. Who knows, perhaps I often use “My Dear Friend” to write to myself. Perhaps by recommending and encouraging imagined “Dear Friend” to do many things (including street photography, walking, writing, managing a blog, working out, doing intermittent fasting, taking cold showers, and exposing the body to frigid temperatures by walking summer clothes) I want to convince myself to all these things because I am simply better and more robust.
Am I the best friend of myself? For today, I will leave this question unanswered.
After all, who told me I have to answer and provide explanations to all questions and doubts that arise while writing my texts? Remember, writing is ultimately for yourself, to express your thoughts and feelings, and to grow as an individual. Also, my Dear Friend, I empower you to forget about money while writing. Do not care about others’ opinions. If you have a thought you want to transform into a written word, do it without planning how and when you will publish it (if you will ever do it). Trust your own instincts and do not expect anything from others while writing because there is always such a possibility that no one (or few people) will ever read your thoughts. Write as much as and as often as possible without considering other people’s potential comments.
