Writing in English

June 19, 2019 by Adam Mazek

One of my earlier artworks, named “Negation of the End,” I prepared in both language transcriptions: English and Polish. I want to stress that the first came to the English version while writing this post. Speaking shortly: writing in English is better for me.

While preparing the description for “Negation of the End,” I thought in English. The Polish version of the text is a translation of the first one. I believe that I write and reading in English is my success. The point is that reading and writing in English are becoming more and more convenient for me. To be more precise, it is more convenient than using my native tongue. Speaking shortly: For today, I feel better at writing in English than in Polish.

I’ve already experienced a similar feeling once in my life. It was during my 4-months stay in the USA in 2006.

The fact is that while being in the US, I was talking in English very much. Thus, I felt that speaking English was slowly becoming my first-to-use language during my last days there. The most interesting is that history knows some Polish guy who was writing in English. His name is Joseph Conrad. Famous Polish-English writer is regarded as one of the greatest novelists who wrote in the English language. For me, it is genuinely unbelievable how a foreign man could master a foreign language to the highest, awestruck level.

Indeed, for me, Joseph Conrad is the pure guiding light.

Do I plan to continue writing in English? The answer is obvious: yes. I plan to do that until the end of my life. Do I want to become a famous writer like Joseph Conrad? No, it is not my aim. There was only one Joseph Conrad. My name is Adam Mazek, and I plan to become one of the most prolific artists in the world. Do I believe in myself? The answer is clear: yes!
