You are what you read; read well.
The phrase ‘you are what you read’ holds profound significance in shaping our thoughts, beliefs, and ultimately, our identity. I wrote this text on the 29th of November, 2023. It was a day when I did nothing special regarding my creative passion. Still, a catch title post appeared in my mind. Undoubtedly, I am not the first one who invented this statement. Moreover, I suppose the source of the title is the phrase, “You are what you eat.” Remembering all these things, I try not to eat processed food and read books about art, science, or culture.
How happy I am that I am no longer a food slave, and candies do not smile at me straight out of the store shelves.
Still, today, I wanted to write more about reading. Since the middle of August 2023, I have also read Marcel Proust’s “In A Search Of Lost Time” masterpiece. In November 2023, I started reading Marcus Aurelius’ “Meditations.” Undoubtedly, it is my return to reading classic literature. Ten years earlier, in 2013, I read almost all translated into the Polish language of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s books. Later on, I read, among others, a few Stanislaw Lem masterpieces or single books by such writers as Thomas Mann or Charles Bukowski. Then, I started reading in English, mainly books printed by German Taschen.
Does it mean I have read only Taschen books for the last few years?
No. British Phaidon, Thames & Hudson, and Polish Bosz are great publishing houses that print books about art, culture, and science. I read all these things to become a better, wiser, more conscious human, emphasizing the importance of quality literature for personal development. I want to avoid reading literary fast food. I hope, my Dear Friend, you also avoid processed and fast food for the mind as much as possible. It will be enough for today. I must go to sleep.
